Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Many new things have happened since my last post in the magical world of Harry Potter. First of all, its Christmas time! This time Harry wasn't neglected, as he expected to be. He got presents, was able to spend time with his friends, and got to eat a Christmas dinner with his fellow classmates. One of the presents he received was an invisibility cloak through an unknown person. The card did mention however that it did belong to his father. Wanting to use the cloak, he peered around at night trying to find out more about Nicolas Flamel through restricted books at the library. After opening the first book, the book starts to scream as Harry escapes back to his dorm. Not able to find his way back, Harry encounters a mystical mirror that is able to show his reflection through the cloak, along with his dead family members. He decided to come back twice again, the first showing Ron the mirror while the second time he has an encounter with Dumbledore.
Harry has his next Quidditch match and it goes well, even though Snape was a biased referee. Early into the game, Harry captures the snitch which makes Gryffindor win the game, along with helping them lead in the House Cup. After the game, Harry follows Snape into the forest with his broom and learns that Snape needs help from Professor Quirrell to get past the guardian of the Sorcerer's Stone. Harry also remembers that Nicolas Flamel is a friend of Dumbledore's and that he is the only person to have a Sorcerer's Stone. It's now being guarded by Hogwarts. Next, Harry and his friends learn that Hagrid is hatching a dragon, which is illegal. Once the dragon hatches, Hagrid takes care of him while the others help. They decide its best to send the dragon to Ron's brother Charlie, where it would be taken care of. Draco Malfoy learns about the dragon and how they plan to send it off during the night. What he didn't know however was that Harry used his invisibility cloak to get the dragon safely to the top of the school and off to Charlie. He ended up getting in trouble and losing 50 points for Slytherin. When Harry and Hermione come back down, they are caught not wearing the invisibility cloak and get in trouble as well, along with Neville. They lose 150 points for Gryffindor and cause their house to be in last for the cup. They also receive detention. Detention for them consists of exploring the restricted forest for a unicorn that has been injured. They soon encounter centaurs which don't give them any clues but throughly confuse them. After a while of walking in 2 different groups, Harry, Malfoy, and Fang find the unicorn which happens to already be dead. A hooded creature appears and starts to drink the blood of the unicorn. It notices Harry and tries to attack him, but another centaur swoops in and saves Harry. The centaur leads Harry back to safely while also telling him some important information. The centaur tells Harry that whoever drinks the blood of a unicorn while have a cursed life, but will escape death for a while longer. Harry comes to the conclusion that Voldemort was the one who drank the blood of the unicorn and now needs the Sorcerer's Stone which will give him eternal life and riches. It all pieces together now for Harry. If I was in the book, I would be friends with Harry, Hermione, Ron, Hagrid, and Dumbledore because of the fact that I want to be part of this adventure that they all play a big role in. My role in the world would be similar to that of Harry and his friends. I would help them uncover secrets to learn the truth about Hogwarts and these peculiar situations. I would also want to experience everything that world has to offer, including learning magic, playing quidditch, and meeting the various amount of people. I would get along with Harry and his friends because of the fact that we have similar aspirations in the world. I wouldn't get along with Professor Snape or Draco Malfoy because they are terrible people trying to stop Harry from uncovering secrets, sabotaging him on the way. I will comment on Rachna, Maddy T, and Michael's posts.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's StoneSince my first blog post, a lot has happened in the world of Harry Potter. To keep it short, I'll explain where Harry has come as of now. Hagrid broke into the Dursley's tiny house, finally letting Harry read the letter that sent them to the shack in the first place. This letter revealed that he had been accepted to the magical school of Hogwarts. Hagrid also informed Harry on who he is and who his parents were, finally revealing the truth that the Dursley's had kept from him for many years. After learning everything, Harry decided to set off to Hogwarts as a student, escaping his dreaded adopted family in the process. Before leaving, Hagrid helps Harry purchase all of his necessary supplies so he can attend Hogwarts. After everything is ready, Harry leaves to Hogwarts on a train, meeting newfound friends Ron and Hermione.
Once at Hogwarts, the first-year students are sorted into one of four houses. These houses are Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. The sorting hat sorts Harry, Ron, and Hermione into Gryffindor. Days into their first year, Harry and his friends start their classes and meet their professors, all of which are very different. They also meet the bully of the first-years, Draco Malfoy. After trying to fight Malfoy in a wizard duel, Harry finds out that he was tricked and now has to find his way back to his dorm. Though he isn't caught, he does find out about a three-headed dog which is guarding a very important package. During his first flying class, Harry proves himself to be a natural without any experience at all. This lands him a spot on the Gryffindor quidditch team as the seeker. After learning the game of quidditch and his role on the team, Harry finally plays his first game which is against the Slytherin team. After a tense match, in which Professor Snape tries to cheat, team Gryffindor wins the match. This is where I'm at in the book so far. The three characters I will be talking about are Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. Harry and Ron's friendship came quickly as they became friends on the train ride towards Hogwarts. They can relate in some ways and have always been there for each other. Without Ron, Harry wouldn't know a lot about the world of Hogwarts. Harry and Ron's friendship with Hermione has been rocky. At first, they didn't like her and how she acted, as she was able to show them up in terms of knowledge. Soon after though, Harry and Ron saved Hermione from a troll which was about to kill her, which immediately prompted their friendship. Without Hermione and Ron though, Harry would not be where he is today. If I had to give advice to Harry about his friendships, I would say that he really should treasure these people. Together they can get through anything, including their years at Hogwarts. He really needs to appreciate his friends because they were the ones who got him to where he was in the first place. These characters and their friendship have taken a toll on the story, revealing new secrets that need to be uncovered. As long as they stick together, they will be able to mold the story to their liking. I will comment on Maddy T, Rachna, and Michael's blog posts. First I am going to explain the plot of the story so far. Essentially, a boy named Harry Potter has just become an orphan and now lives with his aunt and uncle. His parents were murdered by Voldemort but for some reason, when Voldemort tried to kill Harry, his powers suddenly stopped working. After being dropped off by wizards Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, and Hagrid, Harry lives a terrible life with his extended family. They know of his background, so they treat him very unfairly for that very reason. They make him live under the stairs, treat him as though he was nothing more than non-existent, and punish him harshly for the most obscure reasons. His cousin, Dudley, also tends to bully Harry on a daily basis. After hundreds of letters are sent to the house under Harry's name, Harry's uncle decided to move away from their house to a miserable shed on top of a rock. His uncle also does not let Harry read any of the letters. This is where I'm at in the book so far. What I have basically learned is how the life of Harry starts and where it could be leading towards. In my opinion, I think Harry will eventually get a hold of one of these letters. This letter will probably have valuable information that might change the course of hard life. He might even be able to meet the wizards that helped him. I also want to predict that after all of those years of treating Harry badly, his adopted family will soon realize their mistakes. Overall, I am really enjoying this book because of how different it is to books I normally read. Most of them don't follow a magical theme where as this book does. I am ready to venture further into the world of Harry Potter. I will comment on Maddy's and Rachna's posts. |
